The Mazda CX-3 is packed with driver focused-active safety equipment, while its lightweight yet robust SKYACTIV-Body and Mazda’s comprehensive approach to passive safety makes the CX-3 one of the safest SUVs of any size.

With a multi-load path structure that’s designed to absorb and disperse impact forces around and away from the cabin, the CX-3 packs a lot of structural toughness into a compact body, yet with a special energy absorbing cowl and front bumper, pedestrian safety is also a major priority. Inside the cabin, front, side and curtain airbags are standard across the range, and thanks to pressure sensors in the doors, the curtain airbags react faster than ever to side impacts. In a frontal impact the steering column moves forward to protect the driver, while reinforced seatbacks prevent luggage intrusion in rearward impacts.

Even better, thanks to an extensive range of Mazda i-ACTIVSENSE active safety systems, the CX-3 is equipped with cutting edge accident avoidance and mitigation systems. From SE-L Nav models onwards the CX-3 is fitted with both Smart City Brake Support and Lane Departure Warning System.

Mazda’s Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) automatically stops or reduces the speed of the car when there is a risk of collision with the vehicle in front. Using a near-infrared sensor mounted on the windscreen to constantly monitor vehicles ahead at a range of up to around six metres, SCBS primes the brake system to ensure instant pedal pressure if it detects a collision is imminent. If the driver does not respond to a potential obstruction ahead, SCBS automatically applies the brakes, extensively reducing the possibility of impact at speeds of up to 10mph and significantly reducing the intensity of a collision at speeds up to approximately 20mph.

Another example of driver-focused safety equipment is Mazda’s Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), which uses a camera mounted on the windscreen to monitor lane markings and warn the driver with a rumble strip noise if they unintentionally stray into another lane without signaling.

Additionally, ease of parking is facilitated by standard rear parking sensors from SE-L Nav onwards, while the range-topping Sport Nav features a reversing camera, which is displayed clearly on the large 7” colour touch-screen display. Drivers opting for the Petrol Sport Nav can also add Mazda’s £650 Safety Pack that includes Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross Traffic Alert and High Beam Control. Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert uses the Blind Spot warning sensors to detect pedestrians, bicycles and other vehicles when reversing, displaying the visible warning in the relevant door mirror.
